Dr. Kanak Rele - Dance Educationist

It was on Dr. Kanak's proposal that the University of Mumbai introduced the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance), Master of Fine Arts (Dance) and Ph.D. in Dance degrees. She is the architect of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Mumbai and is the Founder-Principal of the renowned college of classical dance Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya established in 1972, which became the first exclusive college for dancing in the country affiliated to a premier university - University of Mumbai.

Today Dr. Kanak Rele is recognized as an outstanding teacher and dance scholar. She has trained generations of brilliant students who are now winning acclaim for their chaste and intense performance. Dr. Kanak is the only dance expert on the Curriculum Development Committee of U.G.C. She has been invited by many universities/institutions to formulate their courses of study as the leading dance pedagogist.

Over the years, Nalanda college has created exceptionally well trained, highly qualified and scholarly generations of dancers who are not only proficient performers but also excellent theoreticians, analysers and teachers.
